PH Consul General Ecraela calls on Gifu Governor
Consul General Roy B. Ecraela called on Gifu Governor Hajime Governor Furuta during his visit to the Prefecture on 12 September 2023. The Consul General’s visit included a stop at the Head Office of Ibiden Co. Ltd. and a meeting with the Filipino community in Ogaki City.
During the call on the Governor, the Consul General thanked the Gifu Prefectural Government for looking after the welfare of the Filipino nationals, noting that there are more than 14,000 of them working and living in the Prefecture.
Governor Furuta informed the Consul General of the services provided to foreign nationals by the Gifu Prefectural Government as well as its efforts to reach out to Filipinos especially during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Both sides also discussed possible activities and initiatives that would advance exchanges between the Philippines and Gifu in the areas of tourism, commerce, air connectivity, education, and disaster preparedness.
At the Ibiden Head Office, the Consul General met with the company’s officials led by its Director and Executive Officer, Mr. Koji Kawashima, and interacted with the company’s Filipino interns. The Consul General also solicited Ibiden’s support to the activities of the Filipino community in Gifu.
Thereafter, the Consul General met with the Filipino community at Ogaki Catholic Church and heard their concerns on consular issues. The Consul General also briefed them on the activities of the Consulate, particularly the ongoing efforts to establish a unified Filipino organization that would help strengthen the solidarity and sense of community of Filipinos in the Chubu Region.
