Filipino Community in Nagano Holds Gala to Celebrate Philippine Independence Day

The Filipino community in Nagano celebrated the 125th Anniversary of Philippine Independence with a gala at the Hotel Metropolitan Nagano on 17 June 2023.

The event was organized by Nagano J and P Global Exchange, led by its President, Ms. Grace Bermudez-Okutsu, in coordination with the Nagano Chikuma Lions Club and Lions Club International District 334-E, led by the club’s President, Mr. Kozo Hokue and District Governor Fumio Takizawa.

Consul Fernando Beup, Jr. delivered the keynote address for the occasion on behalf Consul General Roy B. Ecraela, where he congratulated the Filipino community and the Japanese guests for their socio-civic activities such as the conduct of medical missions in disadvantaged communities in the Philippines. He also commended the group for keeping the cultural exchanges between the Philippines and Japan alive through their cultural activities, and assured them the support of the Consulate General of the Philippines in Nagoya in furthering the interests of Filipino nationals in Nagano.

Filipinos from various cities of Nagano prefecture and Japanese officials and members of the Lions Club attended the event, which featured Philippine dances and songs performed by members of the Filipino community.
