12 September 2022 – As part of Post’s activities to celebrate the Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANA Mo) 2022, Representatives of the Consulate General of the Republic of the Philippines in Nagoya met with top officials of Miya Fisheries High School.
 
During their visit to the school on 09 September 2022, Vice Consul Jericson H. Arceo and Cultural Officer Ava Elsa Arcilla suggested exploring possible collaboration between Miya Fisheries High School and maritime educational institutions in the Philippines.
 
Principal Yutoh expressed similar interest in international cooperation activities and hoped for a sharing of best practices between the two countries through connections with the proper authorities and institutions in the Philippines.
 
Prior to the onset of the COVID pandemic, students and faculty members of the high school had been able to attend maritime-related educational tour in Norway, and in New Zealand.
 
Vice Consul Arceo thanked Principal Yutoh and Vice Principal Hasegawa for the tour of the school’s facilities and offered the Consulate’s assistance in establishing connections with maritime institutions in the Philippines. Likewise, he proposed visa assistance to students and faculty members of the school.
 
The Miya Fisheries High School is one of many high schools in Japan which offers maritime education.
 
The school’s curriculum includes marine vessel operation and maintenance, sustainable aquaculture, marine food processing and preparation, information technology, and sea diving among others.  
 
The school showcased its food processing facility, engine and mechanical room, marine life breeding facilities, and marine vessel port while emphasizing its commitment to and compliance with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)[1]END.
