PIQC | Session 8 | Tracing the Maritime Silk Road in the Visayas | Panel B: The Visayas in East Asian Trade

Session 8 re-examines the extensive trade networks of the 15th to 17th century in Southeast Asia and the role of the Visayas in this network. From well-known ties with the rest of insular Southeast Asia, to the more nuanced relationship with China and mainland Asia, the Visayas held strong linkages as evidenced by the multitude of archeological and historical evidence produced by hardworking and pioneering researchers.

For Panel B | The Visayas in East Asian Trade, Dr. Jose Eleazar Bersales of the University of San Carlos and Dr. Earl Jude Cleope of the Silliman University take a closer look at the rich trading posts in Cebu and Negros as they related to the greater network in East Asia. This panel is moderated by Ma. Regina Yoma of the University of San Carlos.
