NPCG commemorates 62nd anniversary of the signing of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations

The Consulate General of the Philippines in Nagoya, with the support of the Consulates General in Nagoya of Peru and Brazil and the Consulate of Canada in Nagoya, commemorated the 62nd anniversary of the signing of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations (VCCR) on 24 April 2025 at the TIAD Autograph Collection Hotel in Sakae, Nagoya.
The event was attended by representatives of the Aichi prefectural government, the Nagoya city government, the Central Japan Business Federation (Chukeiren), the Aichi International Exchange Association and the Nagoya International Center and the Japan Tourist Bureau (JTB).
With 182 state parties, the VCCR is widely regarded as one of the most successful international agreements, alongside the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, and it remains a shining example of the success of a rules based international order among states and is the very basis for the existence of the consular establishments in Nagoya.
During the reception, DCG Jerome Castro extolled the positive aspects of the VCCR and its continued relevance today and extended gratitude to the Aichi prefectural government and the Nagoya city government, as well as the members of the GAIKOKYO, for the valuable support and attention to strengthening economic and cultural relations while promoting and protecting the interests of Filipinos in Central Japan.
Also highlighted were the existing bonds of cooperation among the Consulates General in Nagoya of Brazil, China, Korea, Peru and Turkiye, as well as the Consulates of Canada and the United States.
The Philippines established its Consulate in Nagoya on 04 December 2019 near the Kokusai Center in Meieki and moved to its permanent location in Yabacho in November 2020, where it serves the 100,000 Filipinos in its jurisdiction comprising nine prefectures, namely Aichi, Gifu, Shizuoka, Nagano, Fukui, Toyama, Ishikawa, Niigata and Yamanashi.
