The Guest Speaker was the Honorable Geraldine Joy R. Ortega, Board Member (BM) of the 1st District of the Province of La Union, who chairs the Committees on Tourism, Labor and Employment, respectively, and is Chairperson of the La Union Vibrant Women, Inc.

Over 40 guests attended from the Filipino community, the local governments of Aichi prefecture and Nagoya City, the Naka-ku Police, Nanzan University, the Aichi International Exchange Association and the Aichi Gyosei Shoshi Kai (immigration lawyers guild).

DCG Castro conveyed the objectives to raise awareness on Philippine laws, policies and processes that protect and promote the rights of Filipino women.

Consul Fernando Beup, VC Jericson Arceo and GAD Focal Person Ms. Elizabeth Alberto gave overviews on the Magna Carta of Women, Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004 and the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, respectively.

BM Ortega expressed her deep regard for the importance of women in nation-building in their roles as mothers, wives, homemakers while they also participate in the workforce, the business community, government, show business and politics; illustrating a deeper perspective of international and Philippine laws governing the women’s rights.

She shared insights and experiences as a public servant, particularly the needs of women in her constituency, including during her 10 years as chief of staff of the Governor of La Union.

There was high participation from all sectors of those who attended during the Q&A portion, while homemade Filipino delicacy BIKO, sticky rice with langka (jackfruit) and ginger, was served with Japanese tea. END
