NAGOYA PCG VISIT CENTER FOR GENDER DIVERSITY, NAGOYA UNIVERSITY
As part of its National Women’s Month activities, Nagoya PCG visited the Center for Gender Diversity (CGD) of the Nagoya University on 21 March 2025.
DCG Jerome Castro, accompanied by Cultural Officer Elizabeth Andrada and Cultural Assistant Justine Roda, was met by Professors Tetsuki Tamura and Mayumi Saegusa, who proceeded to give a presentation on CGD’s initiatives which focused on increasing the female faculty/researcher ratio in Japan, fostering awareness of diversity, and providing a repository for accumulated research at the Gender Research Library (GRL).
During the tour of the GRL, which boasts over 23,000 books, including one by Filipino author Carolyn Sobritchea, Nagoya University Vice President Masako Nagata greeted Post’s officials and gave a brief outlook of the areas for possible cooperation with Post, including, but not limited to, a symposium or round-table talks on gender issues.
PH ranks 25th in the world, and 3rd in Asia-Pacific, while Japan 118th in the world and is at the bottom of the list in Asia-Pacific, in the 2024 Global Gender Gap Index.
Carolyn Sobritchea is one of the PH experts whom the CGD would be interested in tapping for an event in November 2025. She is the author of the book, translated into Nihongo, in the GRL entitled “Gender, Culture and Society: Selected Readings in Women’s Studies in the Philippines,” while Professor Wataru Kusaka, from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, and Professor Asuna Yoshizawa, from Kyoto University, are prominent scholars on Philippine issues.
