Philippine Consulate General in Nagoya Visits Shizuoka Prefectural Yaizu Fisheries High School
The Philippine Consulate General in Nagoya visited Shizuoka Prefectural Yaizu Fisheries High School on 23 October 2023 as part of the Consulate’s activities to mark the Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANAMo).
Consul General Roy B. Ecraela was welcomed by the school’s Principal, Mr. Tomohiko Numazato, who introduced the school’s history which spans 100 years, and highlighted the institution’s importance in helping sustain the fisheries industry of Shizuoka and Japan.
The Consul General expressed the Consulate’s interest in learning from the best practices of the school in terms of its curriculum, facilities, and student training. He noted that both the Philippines and Japan are archipelagic nations where the oceans play an important role in providing livelihood to its citizens and ensuring food security for the country.
The Consulate was given a tour of the school’s fish breeding and nursing site and ship navigation training facilities, and was briefed on the learning activities of the students.
The Consul General was also given an opportunity to interact with a high school class, which included a number of Filipinos raised in Japan.
