31 January 2023 – During a get-together with the leaders and representatives from the Filipino community on Sunday, 29 January 2023, Consul General Celeste Vinzon-Balatbat invited members of the Filipino community to partner with the Consulate General of the Republic of the Philippines in Nagoya in implementing its various projects and activities of the Philippine Consulate General in Nagoya.
Consul Fernando Beup, Jr. presented in detail the Consulate’s projects and activities involving the Filipino community in 2023. The projects include teaching Filipino language to children, self-defense training, seminar on anti-bullying, and various cultural activities, among other projects.
Leaders and representatives from the Filipino community likewise shared their ideas and planned programs for the year, such as leadership training, sports festival, cultural presentations, and poetry and painting competitions to be held in cities within the Chubu Region.
“Thank you very much to the Consulate for sharing your time to have a close coordination with the Filipino community,” said Ms. Linda Taki, Chairperson of the Chubu Philippines Friendship Association (CPFA). “It’s really the first time that these many leaders and representatives from Filipino community gathered here. Thank you, I hope the good relations between the Consulate General and the Filipino community continues,” she added.
Similarly, Ms. Beverly Kawaguchi of the Samahan sa Baranggay Kariya (SBK) extended her gratitude to the Consulate for supporting the organization’s participation in various competitions.
Ms. Virgie Ishihara, Chairperson of the Filipino Migrants Center (FMC) also welcomed the opportunity to meet the Consulate team and other Filipino community leaders and representatives from the Chubu Region. She called for cooperation among Filipino organizations and offered training in providing social and welfare assistance to fellow Filipino nationals.
During the open forum, the Consulate provided clarifications and answered issues and concerns raised by the leaders and representatives from the Filipino community.
In addition, Nagoya-based Filipina painter Ms. Chana Matsuoka donated to the Consulate two (2) of her paintings which had been displayed at the Nagoya International Center.
