PIQC | Session 11: Early Philippine and Southeast Asian Boat-Building and Gold Crafting Technology | Panel I: The Local Peoples in Pigafetta's Writings
The Philippine International Quincentennial Conference resumes today with Panel I | The Local Peoples in Pigafetta's Writings of Session 11 | Early Philippine and Southeast Asian Boat-Building and Gold Crafting Technology.
This Session explores the technological advancements that were present in the Philippines and in the larger Southeast Asian cultural space during the First Circumnavigation of the world and how these developments arose from the scientific and cultural exchanges between the various peoples in the region and from the local conditions of the pre-colonial communities.
For Panel I, Dr. Felice Noelle Rodriguez of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University will wrap up the Session's narrative with a recounting of the Magellan-Elcano Expedition through the peoples they encountered as it was recorded in the chronicle of Antonio Pigafetta. Fr. Randy Jasper Odchigue of the Father Saturnino Urios University will be moderating this panel.
Session 11 is convened by the Father Saturnino Urios University in Butuan City.
